FAQ

Temporary email questions, answered plainly

Can I reply to a message from this address?

No. The upstream providers grant receive-only mailboxes, so there is no outbound path. If a conversation needs two directions, you need an alias or a real account.

Why did a website reject my ShieldMail address?

Larger services buy lists of known disposable domains and block them at the form. Pressing Change draws from a different provider pool, which frequently gets through where the first attempt did not.

What exactly happens when the timer hits zero?

The mailbox is released back to the provider and a fresh address is generated for you automatically. Anything that was sitting in the old inbox is unrecoverable from that moment.

Can someone else read mail sent to my address?

Yes, if they guess or reuse the same address while it is live. These mailboxes have no password by design. Treat every message in them as public.

Does ShieldMail store my messages?

Message bodies pass through the API route to your browser and are not written to any ShieldMail database. The provider that actually received the mail keeps it under its own policy until the mailbox expires.

Is using a disposable address against the rules?

It depends on the service. Many terms of use require a working contact address, and some ban disposable domains outright. Read the terms for anything you care about, and do not use this tool to evade a ban or create duplicate accounts.
